Since first opening in Melbourne in 2014, 8bit has established a fanatical following of gamers and foodies alike. The brainchild of classically trained chef Shayne McCallum and restauranteur friend Alan Sam, 8bit is an ode to their 80’s childhood memories playing arcade machines over a juicy burger at their local fish ‘n’ chip shop.

These nostalgic recollections have been reimagined into a 100-seat diner that transports guests into an 8bit world, complete with pixilated tiles and gaming-inspired vinyl wallpaper.

Chef Shayne re-creates the same crowd-pulling menu featuring beef, fried chicken and crumbed mushroom burgers, as well as classic fast food favourites; onion rings, hotdogs, loaded fries and of course, those velvety, decadent milkshakes. On top of all this, 8bit is set to satisfy burger lovers all year round with ongoing burger specials and quirky collaborations.

8bit is part of the bustling new Darling Square precinct, which is home to some of Sydney’s most exciting food, drink and retail brands. Alongside 8bit you’ll find Belles Hot Chicken, The Sandwich Shop, MATCHA-YA, Ricefields, Gong Cha, Il Bacio, Toby’s Estate, Bang Bang (opening May), Gyradiko Haymarket (opening May), Fishbowl (opening May), Marrickville Pork Roll (opening May), and Edition Coffee Roasters (opening May). There’s also a small collection of lifestyle stores including Pict streetwear and accessories, sustainable specs at Dresden Optics, Men’s Culture Barber, and clever travel and lifestyle at ALIFEHAUS.
