Struggling with writer’s block? Here are seven tips to help you become a word wizard.

1. Brush up on grammar

Grammar is essential for good writing. Flick through a grammar book and take yourself back to your primary school days. You’ll learn a thing or two, I promise.

2. Read

Pick up a book and take note of how the author writes. Highlight words and phrases you like to increase your vocabulary.

3. Go with the flow

Simultaneously writing and editing is a common mistake that’ll stop the flow of your writing. The first step to writing is getting words onto paper, so let go and don’t worry about getting it right the first time. You’ll be able to tighten things up once your first draft is complete.

 4. Cut the fluff

Beefing up your writing with unnecessary words won’t make your writing better. While editing your work, cut any words that don’t need to be there. Your readers will thank you.

5. Read it out loud

If your words don’t flow when reading them out loud, they won’t flow on paper. This will help you pick up mistakes you may have missed while proofreading.

6. Practice, practice, practice

It’s a cliché, but practice makes perfect.

7. Have fun with it

If you’re not having fun while writing, chances are your readers will be bored too. Sprinkle in some humour for more enjoyable reading.
