A raft of grab-and-go eateries perfect for families at Barangaroo (South) have extended their trading hours during Vivid Sydney to provide visitors additional dining options, as they follow a discovery trail of light and art installations around Sydney’s new waterfront neighbourhood.

Every lunchtime The Canteen’s 461 seats are filled with Barangaroo’s office workers looking for variety, affordability and convenience. Every Friday and Saturday evening throughout Vivid Sydney, The Canteen will stay open late to ensure there are plenty of cheap-and-cheerful dinner options under $20. Visitors to Vivid Sydney can choose from six different casual food outlets offering Turkish through to Malaysian, sushi through to burgers, in an open and welcoming space. It’s pram friendly so perfect for families wanting to rest their feet somewhere warm and who need to please hungry little tuckers (because let’s face it, they all want something different to eat). There’s also live music, games for the kids and colouring-in to entertain them while you eat.

Here’s what’s on offer:

Adanos Grill serves up Turkish flavours – think marinated and grilled chicken, beef and lamb shish skewers served with salad, a choice of side dishes and freshly baked pide bread.

– At Ipoh Town, the experience is as authentic as enjoying street food in Malaysia itself. Take your pick from the laksa, mee goreng, beef rendang, chicken satay and char kway teow.

Iron Grill and Silverbeet serve five limited edition Vivid Sydney dinner boxes. Choose from the seafood box, Greek box, smoky southern box, steak box and falafel delight box. They also have a delicious range of gourmet burgers including the classic burger, steak burger, halloumi stack and bacon roll.

Pattison’s Patisserie is one of Sydney’s finest French-inspired patisseries and bakeries. Each day, a hand-made selection of pies, quiches and savoury tarts are freshly baked. For an after-dinner treat, there’s also cakes, tarts, macarons, breads and pastries.

Sushi Hon is the go-to for sushi as well as Japanese classics such as agedashi tofu, prawn tempura, teriyaki chicken and fresh sashimi.

The Canteen will be open from 5pm until 9pm on Friday and Saturday evenings throughout Vivid Sydney.

Vivid Sydney will light up Barangaroo (South) from 6pm – 11pm every evening until Saturday 17 June. Visitors wanting to start their Barangaroo experience early can take a free 30 minute guided tour at 4.00pm, 4.45pm, 5.30pm, throughout the festival. Step through The Streets with one of the resident tour guides from Sydney Theatre Company to learn about the fascinating history of the site; hear about the exciting, unique experiences now available (and still to come); and get a glimpse into what makes modern-day Barangaroo one of the most advanced and environmentally sustainable developments of its kind in the world.

The southern end of Barangaroo is best accessed from Wynyard Station via Wynyard Walk, or is a short stroll from King Street Wharf and the Darling Harbour ferry stop.
