Another six retailers will join Maker’s Dozen, Sydney’s new food collective, when it opens its doors in mid-2019 on the ground level of the Kengo Kuma designed building – The Exchange.
At the heart of Lendlease’s Darling Square precinct, Maker’s Dozen is set to hold a distinct collection of 12 retailers each with big personalities – from dessert and pastry creators to craft beer aficionados and fusion food specialists. Maker’s Dozen will be a place for food lovers to come together and experience great food in an exceptionally designed space.
Hopper Kadé brings its hawker style food from the streets of Colombo to Darling Square. It’s joined by Fishbowl; sustainable seafood café, Fish & Co; modern fusion Vietnamese, Bau Truong; insta-worthy bubble tea and florist, Bubble Nini; and Sydney’s Spanish favourite, Tapavino.
These six retailers join a Japanese pasta collaboration from Hamish Ingham, Rebecca Lines and Kerby Craig, Bucket Boys bar and bottle shop, Saga and Mr. Bao Buns in the Maker’s Dozen food collective.
The Maker’s Dozen concept reinvents the food hall experience, creating quality yet casual food in a space that transforms from day to night. It’s a spot for breakfast, lunch, dinner, drinks and dessert. Visitors can enjoy morning coffee and brunch through to late night snacks, long weekend lunches and grab-and-go takeaway, seven days a week. With approximately 350 seat capacity, the design allows guests to take their pick of the bunch, mixing and matching meals as they go, before grabbing a spot at one of the communal group tables either indoors or outdoors or dining exclusively with one of a select few retailers who have dedicated seating.
The space has been designed by Anthony Gill Architects, the firm behind some of Sydney’s most inspiring hospitality spaces including the new Poly in Surry Hills, Ester in Chippendale and 121BC in Surry Hills. Whilst the retailers bring the heat and energy, the design oozes a Japanese influence with cool colourings, clean lines and natural materials.

It’s within minutes walk from Central Station via The Goods Line, nestled between Chinatown, Darling Harbour and Ultimo.
