Plant-based pub food? Pub-classics north of the bridge turn green for a night as Rozelle’s The Green Lion 100% plant-based bistro pub pops up at Manly Wharf Hotel on Friday 9 August.
For one night only, devour your favourite greasy, cheesy, smokey and fishy pub classics without animal products or impact. The Green Lion team recreate the tastes and textures commonly found in animal-based ingredients through a range of unique and interesting ingredients and substitute recipes.
The ticketed dinner event kicks off with a vegan cocktail on arrival before sitting down to share loaded poutine fries with gravy and cheese; mac and cheese balls with aioli and pickles; and prawn and calamari with Asian slaw for starters. Next up, there’s potato pizza with caramelised onion, truffle oil and blue cheese; BBQ chicken with gouda, mozzarella, red onion and BBQ sauce; of course, the classic cheeseburger with a plant-based twist. Finish on a sweet note with the ultimate chocolate brownie. Vegan wine is available to purchase at the bar and DJs.
Justin Tynan, General Manager of Manly Wharf Hotel says: “This menu doesn’t read like it’s plant-based and sure doesn’t taste like it. We can see a growing demand for plant-based options from but also reckon people who’ve never even thought about eating vegan will be blown away by this food. We’re so excited to show another side to pub food at Manly Wharf Hotel.”
