Local writer, critic, presenter and co-founder of P&V Wine + Liquor Merchants, Mike Bennie, hosts a one-night-only event showcasing the misfits of the wine world at Misfits Bar and Dining in Redfern.

For one night only, devour your favourite greasy, cheesy, smokey and fishy pub classics without animal products or impact. The Green Lion team recreate the tastes and textures commonly found in animal-based ingredients through a range of unique and interesting ingredients and substitute recipes.

Over the night there will be eight wine and drinks matched to four courses with all wines focussed on minimal intervention winemaking from avant-garde wine producers. The evening commences with canapes and the choice of a pet-nat or wild ferment beer in the out-of-bounds room. Then, sit down to enjoy a selection of unconventional wines perfectly paired with a three-course menu by Misfits executive chef, James Privett.

Beef short rib, charred sugarloaf cabbage, pangrattato complements the Brave New Wine Rude Boy 2018 and Vignoble Mingot Cabernet Franc 2016 while burrata, spiced apricots, jalapeno dust, flax seed crisp is paired with with Mac Forbes RS 18 Riesling 2017 and Terada Honke Daigo no Shizuku sake top off the night.

Throughout the dinner hear the story behind each label and why Bennie considers it a ‘misfit’. If you’re not into conventional vino varieties or perhaps you just love unusual ingredients and a unique hue, this event is for you.
